To ensure that you, as a customer of SAR, receive the final reimbursement payment, used oil must be delivered to us no later than November 1, 2024. The government is proposing to discontinue the reimbursement scheme for used oil as of January 1, 2025. The last payment will be made in December 2024.

After 30 years of financial incentives to deliver used oil for approved treatment, an evaluation shows that the scheme has served its purpose, as costs now outweigh the benefits. The collection rate of used oil is expected to remain high.

Positive Development in Waste Management

Over the past 30 years, awareness and procedures for handling hazardous waste have significantly improved. All producers, whether businesses or individuals, who generate hazardous waste, including used oil, are required to deliver it to private or municipal waste facilities authorized to receive such waste.

Do you have used oil or other hazardous waste you wish to dispose of? Please contact your local SAR department to ensure that your waste is handled safely, sustainably, and properly. You can find your nearest location here.
