World Environment Day

When we were invited to be part of the jury while students from Bryne ungdomsskole this Friday competed in entrepreneurship we didn't hesitate for a second. What a joy so see such creativity and bright young minds at work with reuse and value creation as the goal!

An inspiring entry to the weekend of World Environmental Day!

SAR took part in the jury in a the sustainability project that arranged at Bryne ungdomsskole on Friday June 3rd under the auspices of Young Entrepreneurship. Young Entrepreneurship is a nationwide organization that, together with the education system, the business community and other participants, works to develop children and young people's creativity, creative joy and belief in themselves.

This time it was the company Aarbakke at Bryne who had created a challenge where student groups competed to come up with the best idea of how different types of metal shavings from their operating operations could be reused or become a new product.

The motivation and creativity among the students was sky high and the jury had difficulties choosing and nominating specific winners. Finally the top three got their well deserved prizes, and the winning ideas were:

  • Steel cup with 2 chambers; one for hot drinks and one for cold drinks

  • Buttons for jeans and other clothes

  • Movable small stand with lift for wheelchair users

It was fantastic to be part of this and see such great environmental commitment among the young people. This bodes well for the future and we hope to see many of these great minds in our industry in the future .

The jury was composed of:

Dan Lillesund, Business Development Manager SAR

Ingbjørn Apeland, Opplæringsleder i Aarbakke AS

Sigve Aasland, Avdelingsleder TIP Bryne vgs.

World Environment Day on 5 June is the biggest international day for the environment and of course supported applauded by SAR. Lead by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and held annually since 1973, the event has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach, with millions of people from across the world engaging to protect the planet.
