The 333-meter-long behemoth USS Harry S. Truman has been highly visible in the Oslo Fjord.

When USS Harry S. Truman — one of the largest aircraft carriers in the world — arrives in the Oslo Fjord, it's not a common sight. The 333-meter-long (equivalent to 3 football fields), nuclear-powered giant, named after the 33rd President of the United States, is an impressive presence as it docks. With the capacity to carry up to 90 aircraft and equipped for everything from combat operations to humanitarian missions, it’s a unique feature in the landscape outside Akershus Fortress. It was therefore a significant moment for us at SAR to be asked by the Norwegian Waste Agency (NWAAS) to lead the mission involving the safe handling of sewage and oily water from this massive vessel.

We are excited to participate in ONS 2024, one of the most important platforms for innovation and sustainability in the energy industry. This year, we are attending as visitors, which gives us a unique opportunity to be flexible and available for inspiring conversations and networking where we see opportunities.

For SAR, it is crucial to invest in projects that have a direct and positive impact on the work we perform daily as a total provider of environmental services. We aim to prioritize circularity, sustainability, and environmental protection in all the solutions and decisions we make.

One of SAR's environmental advisors, Håvard Nateland, is the working group leader for the revision project of the NS9431 standard for waste classification. This project is organized by Standard Norge and involves many skilled players from the waste industry, including NFFA (Norwegian Association for Hazardous Waste) in an observer role, with broad participation from various industry working groups. For SAR, it is important to invest in and set direction for work that promotes environmental protection and sustainability.

In relation to the 5-year classification of the offshore supply vessel "Amalie," SAR, in partnership with Soltin Marine, recently conducted a significant upgrade. This upgrade involved the installation of a new main engine, a new exhaust gas cleaning system, and a new ballast water treatment system by SAR.

We are happy to share that Jasmine Bigelow started her master's thesis with us in SAR at the end of January 2023. Jasmine already has a bachelor's degree in energy economics from Western Washington University in the USA and is now taking a master's degree in Energy, environment and society at the University of Stavanger.
