USS Harry S. Truman in the Oslo Fjord: SAR handled waste from the giant ship
The 333-meter-long behemoth USS Harry S. Truman has been highly visible in the Oslo Fjord.
When USS Harry S. Truman — one of the largest aircraft carriers in the world — arrives in the Oslo Fjord, it's not a common sight. The 333-meter-long (equivalent to 3 football fields), nuclear-powered giant, named after the 33rd President of the United States, is an impressive presence as it docks. With the capacity to carry up to 90 aircraft and equipped for everything from combat operations to humanitarian missions, it’s a unique feature in the landscape outside Akershus Fortress. It was therefore a significant moment for us at SAR to be asked by the Norwegian Waste Agency (NWAAS) to lead the mission involving the safe handling of sewage and oily water from this massive vessel.

The reimbursement scheme for used oil is being discontinued
To ensure that you, as a customer of SAR, receive the final reimbursement payment, used oil must be delivered to us no later than November 1, 2024. The government is proposing to discontinue the reimbursement scheme for used oil as of January 1, 2025. The last payment will be made in December 2024.

Vacation's over, revision for future waste classification continues!
For SAR, it is crucial to invest in projects that have a direct and positive impact on the work we perform daily as a total provider of environmental services. We aim to prioritize circularity, sustainability, and environmental protection in all the solutions and decisions we make.
One of SAR's environmental advisors, Håvard Nateland, is the working group leader for the revision project of the NS9431 standard for waste classification. This project is organized by Standard Norge and involves many skilled players from the waste industry, including NFFA (Norwegian Association for Hazardous Waste) in an observer role, with broad participation from various industry working groups. For SAR, it is important to invest in and set direction for work that promotes environmental protection and sustainability.

The technical session will focus on “Value From Data Sharing”.
Great value can be achieved by collaboration that would involve sharing data between O&G industry peers and suppliers. During the technical session you will hear from operators, suppliers, and technology providers within O&G.
This year, Alisa will share valuable knowledge about the importance of data sharing in sustainable waste management.
As the world is going through a transition towards a greener and more environmentally sustainable society, the O&G industry naturally follows the same pattern. Consequently, sustainable waste management plays a central role in this transition and fully supports circular economy.
The waste industry is currently focusing heavily on data sharing. At the same time, it depends on data availability from both customers and partners. During this session, you will be presented with several cases and learn how collaboration between customers and waste management companies can be improved by data sharing technologies:
- Data flow that follows value chain: from produced waste – its transportation – to its recycling.
- Waste reporting: data availability for O&G companies to meet authority requirements.
- Sustainability awareness – knowledge on how O&G waste was recycled and proactive suggestions for improvements on how O&G companies manage their waste based on data.

SAR AS has signed a 5-year Collaboration Agreement with Ferdocean Shipping AS for the concept of offshore waste management.
The agreement strengthens the process of developing the concept consisting of a fully integrated offshore waste management system and technology, optimised for sustainable and environment-friendly operations. The great synergies between SAR AS and Ferdocean, will strengthen both company’s overall ability to deliver good solutions and services to both the local and global offshore market. SAR AS will with this collaboration be responsible for the waste management on board the Ferdocean vessels
